Old versus New – For What It’s Worth Revamp

The Antiques Roadshow is mandatory Sunday night telly in our house. Truth be known we don’t know our Chippendales from our Chesterfields but we do enjoy playing the ‘guess the value’ game and so it was happy days when For What It’s Worth was added to the BBC One daytime schedule. Hosted by the delightful Fern Britton, the antiques quiz show features contestants answering general knowledge questions with the victors taking home a stash of antiques if they can correctly work out how much they’re worth.

You’ve got to be in it to win it

Here at EC we love cake as much as the next set design and build company, but that wasn’t the only reason we were happy to be invited to a special reception yesterday evening. The soiree, which was kindly hosted by fellow Oldham company Innovative Technology, was to announce the shortlist for the Oldham Business Awards 2016 and yep, you guessed it, we made the grade! Doing Porridge

We’re way too young to remember the original 1970’s BBC television show Porridge (well, a few of us are anyway). Having said that we do know, of course, that it was a classic British sitcom (David Attenborough once called it ‘the greatest programme ever made’ don’t you know) and so we were really pleased to be asked to build a new version of the set for a return of the show. The one-off special is part of the BBC’s new ‘landmark comedy season’ which plans to revisit a number of other iconic and much loved comedies including Are You Being Served and Up Pompeii! The new episode is bang up-to-date and will feature the original lead character and ‘habitual criminal’ Norman Stanley Fletcher’s grandson (the new Fletch) doing a stretch of porridge for computer hacking.
